iSPACE is proud to celebrate Girls in STEM with our Girls Event at Mount Saint Joseph University!
We have opened registration for our March Girls Event with an added lecture for Parents. This event takes place on March 25th from 6:00PM-8:00PM.
Student Hands-on science component:
- Presentation: Maria Brown, PhD, Professor of Biology and Pharmacology, School of Behavioral and Natural Sciences
- Title: “Take a Deep Breath – Respiration Lab”
Description: This interactive experience involves exploring the anatomy and physiology of the respiratory system. Students will interact with inflated cow lungs, respiratory models, microscope slides, and a virtual anatomy software system (Anatomage) to develop an understanding of the structure and function of the respiratory organs. Special focus will be given to pathologies, including how substances affect the respiratory system (especially cigarettes and e-cigarettes/vaping).
- Presentation: Mary Kay Fleming, PhD, Professor of Psychology, School of Behavioral and Natural Sciences
- Title: “Mentoring your Future Scientist”
Description: This interactive session will explore the myths, realities, and possibilities for girls in the sciences and math. Join us for a parent-to-parent conversation about how to nurture curiosity and learning.
